We did a plastic-free Easter Egg Hunt...so you don't have to! As well as some of our favourite local businesses, high street names have made a real effort to remove needless plastic from their Easter treats in 2021.
We also have a few little ideas of our own, including these cute
Easter Bunny and
Bee sandwich wraps (£8 each) in readiness for Easter picnics in the park. Doing good in multiple ways, these wraps remove the need for single-use wraps and bags and are sewn by inmates at Kilmarnock Prison who get trained, paid for their work and gain useful qualifications in the process.
Here are some of our favourites from our hunt elsewhere...
COOP
The trusty COOP's own brand chocolate eggs have been Fairtrade since 2016 and now they are entirely plastic free too! Packaged entirely in cardboard, this move has allowed them to save a whopping 14 tonnes of unnecessary plastic (source: coop.co.uk). Their offering includes a beautiful free-from option that's completely milk-free, gluten-free with caramel chocolate truffles, all using Fairtrade cocoa priced at £3.50
LOVE LOCAL - Locally to us, we are lucky to have lots of great independent plastic-free options, be sure to check out your local refill stores and independent chocolate shops too!
Cenu Cacao (@Cenucacao on Instagram) in Leamington Spa make all their chocolate on site and have just released this year's Easter Eggs, just take a look at those - you better be quick!
Talking of being quick, it looks like we have already missed the boat on these phenomenal Easter slabs from another local favourite Emis Little Bakery (@Emislittlebakery on Instagram) which have already sold out!. Not at all surprised as anything that comes out of Emi's kitchen is divine. (Note to self - make diary note for next March)
Alex at CORE in Leamington's Park St (@Coreleamington on Instagram and Facebook) had a whole basket of vegan, plastic-free Easter treats on offer earlier this week, including @cococaravan @cocoloco @montezumas and @playinchoc that has a little plastic free toy included too.
Zero Store in Leamington Spa (@zerostoreuk on Instagram and Facebook) have also been adding a whole range of Easter delights to their shop recently including these rather handsome chaps from @Divinechocolate
If chocolate is not your thing, or you are trying to gift something that isn't chocolate based this year, how about some packets of seeds to get sowing and growing? Or order the latest childrens book by wonderful local author Loll Kirby @hellogatherandgrow to spread some much needed kindness this Easter.
Have a lovely Easter whatever you choose!
Nicola & Claire xx
